[Fwd 2025 Summer in Germany] Hamburg International Summer School 2026

The new Hamburg International Summer School (HISS) program 2026 at the University of Hamburg. Designed to foster global academic collaboration and provide students with unique learning experiences, our summer schools will cover a range of exciting and relevant topics in 2026.
 
Particles Strings and Cosmology
13. July– 24. July 2026
The school will describe modern issues today in particles, strings and cosmology, and link them to the activities at University of Hamburg and DESY.  Data analysis today requires heavy use of machine learning and AI in particle physics will be introduced.
 
The Law and Economics of Human Behavior and Social Norms
20. July – 07. August 2026
The summer school "The Law and Economics of Human Behavior and Social Norms" explores how legal institutions interact with social norms, behavioral insights, and political factors, offering a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach. It provides participants with the foundational theories and tools to analyze these complex interactions and their implications for designing effective legal and economic institutions.
 
Literacies for Social Participation
07. September – 18. September 2026
Literacy is a vital skill for social participation, encompassing multiple languages, modalities, and technologies, which has become increasingly complex due to migration and digitalization, often creating barriers to access and equity. This summer school offers an international curriculum to advanced students, focusing on literacy diversity, development, and policy implications across various contexts and life stages.
 
Legal Perspectives on Medical Research — Regulatory Challenges, Data Privacy, and Future Opportunities
22. June – 03. July 2026
The University of Hamburg’s Faculty of Law hosts an international summer school focused on legal, ethical, and data protection challenges in medical research, emphasizing regulation of clinical trials, biomedical innovation, and new technologies like AI. It provides law students with in-depth knowledge and critical reflection on balancing medical progress with individual rights and ethical considerations.
 
Redrawing Space(s): A Critical Cartography Summer School
25. August – 30. August 2026 (+1 week online 01. – 05. September 2026)
Critical cartography has evolved into a vibrant subdiscipline influencing social sciences, cultural studies, and the arts, and the summer school "Redrawing Space(s)" offers researchers a space to explore its key concepts, methods, and artistic innovations. Held in Hamburg, the program combines theoretical reflection with practical workshops, enabling participants to apply cartographic techniques firsthand in the city's urban context.
