NHI Eligibility Date Calculator

Overseas Chinese students are eligible to enroll in NHI after residing in Taiwan for 183 days from the date of entry and may apply for an NHI card. During this period, only one departure is allowed, not exceeding 30 days; otherwise, the 183-day count will restart.

Examples:

  1. Xiao Ming: Entered on August 24, 2023, and stayed in Taiwan during winter break to work part-time. He will be eligible for enrollment 183 days later, on February 23, 2024, and can apply for an NHI card.
  2. Xiao Hua: Entered on August 24, 2023, and returned home for 20 days during winter break. He will be eligible for enrollment 183 days + 20 days = 203 days later, on March 14, 2024, and can apply for an NHI card.
  3. Xiao Guang: Entered on August 24, 2023, returned home for 31 days, and came back to Taiwan on February 17, 2024. Since he was abroad for more than 30 days, his residency count will restart. Therefore, Xiao Guang will be eligible for enrollment 183 days after February 17, 2024, which is August 18, 2024, when he can apply for an NHI card.

Students can use the calculator below to determine their enrollment eligibility date. After meeting the eligibility date, it takes approximately 10 working days to receive the NHI card.
