National Sun Yat-sen University warmly welcomes international scholars to engage in academic exchanges and collaborative research. Please refer to the following guidelines for eligibility and application steps:
Purpose and Eligibility
- The primary purpose of the visit must be teaching or academic research.
- Visiting scholars must not hold current student status.
- The maximum duration is up to one year.

Employment Status and Visa Requirements
For Visiting Scholars with NSYSU employment
NSYSU must obtain official approval from the Ministry of Education (MOE) before you apply for your visa.
For Visiting Scholars WITHOUT NSYSU employment (Staying up to 6 months)
Scholars should obtain an official Invitation Letter from NSYSU prior to applying for a Visitor Visa.
For Visiting Scholars WITHOUT NSYSU employment (Staying between 6 months to 1 year)
Your host department submits documents to the Ministry of Education (MOE). Once approved, scholar shall apply for a Resident Visa using the MOE approval letter and an official Invitation Letter from NSYSU.
Reminder: An Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) must be processed within 30 days upon entry. National Immigration Agency website.
Application Process for Invitation Letters
The host department / faculty shall submit the application on behalf of the visiting scholar:

Submit the Seal Application
Log in to the NSYSU Single Sign-On (SSO) portal and submit a "Seal Application."

Attach Required Documents below
Application Form: including a full itinerary for your stay in Taiwan [download].
Supporting Documents: a copy of the scholar's passport and a proof of current employment / faculty ID.
Important Information
Campus Wi-Fi
Request temporary campus Wi-Fi access through your host department (managed by the Network Management Division, Office of Library and Information Services).
On-campus Accommodation
Options can be arranged via your host department: Short-term Dormitories through the Assets Management Division and Guest House through the Visitor's Lodge website.
Insurance
Visiting scholars must hold valid overseas medical and travel insurance covering the entire duration of their stay in Taiwan.
Legal Compliance
Scholars must abide by all laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and NSYSU regulations. Engaging in activities inconsistent with the purpose of the invitation is prohibited.
