Air Defense Exercise in Taiwan - July 22 to July 25
The Ministry of National Defense in Taiwan has announced that its regular annual air defense exercise, Wan An No. 47, will be conducted on July 22 -July 25, 2024, from 1:30-2:00 p.m.
The exercise is divided into the following four regions:
July 22 - Central Taiwan: Miaoli County, Taichung City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County and Chiayi City.
July 23 – Northern Taiwan: Taipei City, New Taipei City, Yilan County, Keelung City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, and Hsinchu County.
July 24 – Eastern Taiwan and outlying islands: Hualien County, Taitung County, Penghu County, Kinmen County and Lienchiang County.
July 25 – Southern Taiwan: Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung County.
During the 30-minute exercise, students on campus should follow the signs (see below) and stay in the basement of each building (Dorms, International and Research Building, Administration Building, College of Social Sciences). Students in other buildings should follow the instructions of their professors or administrative staff.
Trains will operate as usual. However, passengers will not be able to exit the MRT station after they arrive on the train. Please also note that vehicular movement on the streets will cease during the exercise. Movement on highways will be permitted. If you are outdoors when the alarm sounds, you will be required to take cover nearby or to pull your vehicle to the side of the road until the drill concludes. Failure to follow the instructions or directions of military or law enforcement personnel during the exercise will result in fines under Taiwan’s Civil Defense Law.
During the 30-minute exercise, the emergency notification system will be tested as well, signaling the start and end of the event.
