Employment for Overseas Students in Taiwan
(1) How Overseas Chinese Students Can Stay and Work in Taiwan: 2-Year Residency Extension Period
Graduates holding an associate degree or higher may apply for a one-year extension of residency after graduation. If necessary, a second one-year extension may be applied for before the first expires, allowing for a maximum total extension period of two years.
During this period, you do not need to apply for a specific work permit; you possess "personal work rights," which means you are free to engage in full-time or part-time work, or internships while seeking your ideal career path, without the need to be tied to a specific employer beforehand.
Note: Upon the expiration of the two-year period, you must still proceed with formal employment by following one of the two paths below, in accordance with regulations for foreign professionals:
- The Points System (Scoring Criteria) for Overseas Chinese and Foreign Students Working in Taiwan.
- Apply in accordance with the regulations regarding "Foreign Professionals Engaging in Specialized or Technical Work."
(2) How Overseas Chinese Students Can Stay and Work in Taiwan: Applying via the Points System for Overseas Chinese and Foreign Students
Foreigners who have obtained a bachelor's degree or higher in Taiwan and have accumulated at least 70 points upon review by the Ministry of Labor are eligible.
Note: Employers must also comply with relevant regulations of the Ministry of Labor to hire overseas Chinese students under the Points System. Students should pay close attention to this.

(3) Work Permit Application
1. The work permit must be applied for by the company to the Ministry of Labor.
Overseas Chinese students must find an employer after graduation, and the company will apply for the work permit on your behalf. You cannot apply for a work permit on your own just by meeting the 70-point requirement.
2. You can only apply for a work permit after receiving your diploma.
If a student finds a job during a deferred graduation period, they still need to complete the graduation procedures and obtain the diploma before they can process their stay in Taiwan after graduation.
3. Work Permit Application Procedure:
The employer attaches the application form and relevant documents and submits the application to the Ministry of Labor (via mail, online application, or in person).
Note: If the employer provides the relevant documents under the company's name, the employee may also submit the application.
