National Health Insurance (NHI)

1. Background and Legal Provisions

According to the National Health Insurance Act, holders of residence permits who have resided in Taiwan for6months are required to join the National Health Insurance. The six-month residency is calculated from the issuance date of the residence permit. Continuous residence for months or having left Taiwan once not exceeding 30days, with the actual period of residence after deducting the days abroad, totaling 6months.

2. Payment Method and Amount According to Regulations

Premium:NT$826 per month (according to the current standard of the National Health Insurance Administration)

Payment Method: Paid together with tuition and miscellaneous fees every semester (NT$4,956 per semester)

First Semester→Pay insurance premium for September to the following February

Second Semester→Pay insurance premium for March to August

 

3.Transfer to School-Handled Health Insurance

Situation 1:Newly arrived students who have not resided in Taiwan for 6 months should, according to the National Health Insurance Act, apply for NHI transfer and IC card after residing for 6 months (based on the initial issuance date of the residence permit), following the procedure in Situation 2.

Situation 2:Newly enrolled students who have resided in Taiwan for 6 months should go to the Overseas Chinese and Foreign Students Section to obtain a health insurance payment slip, pay the fee at the Cashier Section, and then submit the receipt to the Overseas Chinese and Foreign Students Section for NHI transfer and IC card application. Notification will be given when the card is ready for collection.

Situation 3:If already insured by another unit but wish to transfer to school insurance, please first complete the insurance transfer-out procedure at the original insured unit (e.g., language school, workplace, township office), obtain the transfer-out slip or certificate, then go to the Overseas Chinese and Foreign Students Section to obtain a health insurance payment slip, pay the fee at the Cashier Section, and submit the payment receipt and transfer-out proof to the Overseas Chinese and Foreign Students Section for NHI transfer-in procedure.

Situation 4:If already insured by another unit and do not wish to transfer to school insurance, please inform the Overseas Chinese and Foreign Students Section staff and check the tuition and miscellaneous fee payment slip at the beginning of each semester to avoid duplicate payments.

 

4. Transfer Out or Withdraw from School-Handled Health Insurance

Situation 1:Leave of absence, withdrawal, graduation, transfer, or employment: please go to the Overseas Chinese and Foreign Students Section to process health insurance refund and withdrawal procedures.

Situation 2:Transferring from this school to another: please go to the Overseas Chinese and Foreign Students Section to process health insurance refund and transfer-out procedures. Submit the transfer-out slip issued by this school to the new school to process the health insurance transfer-in procedure.

 

5. Reissue or Replacement of NHI IC CardICCard

For changes in personal information, damage, loss, or photo replacement, please go to the National Health Insurance Administration or post office, pay a handling fee of NT$200 and submit the application form to process the reissue or replacement of the NHI IC card.
