Q: Do I need a visa to enter Taiwan?

A: After receiving your Letter of Acceptance, you should start to apply for a VISA.

One semester students should obtain a Visitor Visa to enter Taiwan. The visitor visa will be issued according to the length of the study.

One-year students must apply for the Resident Visa and change it to the ARC within 15 days after their arrival.

Q: When should I arrive in Taiwan?

A: We suggest you arrive in Kaohsiung 5 days before the class starts. The orientation is usually held on the Friday before the class starts, and it is compulsory for freshmen to attend.

Topics including visas, culture adjustment, and important regulations will be covered during the orientation.

You will also get the opportunity to know other international students and some current NSYSU students and explore NSYSU's comprehensive resources.

Q: When should I pay the fees?

A: The payment bill will be issued on orientation day. All exchange students can make the payment by cash at any Post Office or Bank of Taiwan.

If the fee is less than NT20,000, the payment can also be made at any convenience store in Taiwan.

Fee-paying students may pay the fees by wire transfer before coming to Taiwan.

Q: Does the university offer a pick-up service?

A: The University does not offer a pick-up service. Please refer to the transportation information of NSYSU.

We strongly advise you to take a taxi directly to the NSYSU dormitory since our dorms are located on the hills.

After Arrival

Q: How can I purchase a sim card?

A: We suggest you purchase a prepaid card from one of the mobile network carriers at the airport.

If you missed the chance, you can also buy it from a mobile service company in the city.

Q: What should I do if any of the facilities at the dorm is broken?

A: Please report it to the Dorm Office directly.

Q: What should I do if there are problems with the dormitory internet?

A: Please visit the website for repair requests.

Q: What should I do if I got hurt after a monkey grabbed me?

A: Visit the Campus Clinic or Health Division for emergency medical care and have a tetanus injection.

Remember to ask for a diagnosis certificate from the clinic and bring it with the receipts to the OIA coordinator for insurance reimbursement.

Q: What address should I use if I wish to receive letters or packages?

A: Please send them to the OIA office directly with your full name and student ID on them. We will notify you once we receive them.

Q: Can I work on or off campus?

A: No. Exchange students are not eligible to apply for a work permit under NSYSU regulations. The only exception is to apply for the ELTA program.

Q: Can I apply for early leave?

A: Exchange students are expected to follow the courses throughout the semester as other students.

If you have to leave earlier due to inevitable circumstances, written approval must be obtained from each lecturer.

In addition, the leaving procedure form must be completed within 3 days before leaving.

For students who leave the university without the written approval and leaving procedure form, grades and transcripts will not be given.

Q: When can I get the most updated list of English courses?

A: Fall semester - early or mid-August

Spring semester - mid or late-January

Q: Do I need to register for my courses before arrival?

A: Yes, you must select the courses starting from the Preliminary Course Selection (II).

The course selection is run by random selection, not on a first come first serve basis.

Q: Can I select courses from different programs and levels?

A: Yes, exchange students are eligible to select courses offered by different departments/programs.

Undergraduate students can select elective courses of the master-level and doctoral-level courses are open to master's students - starting from Add/Drop (I).

Some courses are only available during Exceptional Circumstances. You should attend these courses first and get approval from the professors to follow them and add the courses later.

Q: When can I receive my transcript?

A: Grades will be updated to http://selcrs.nsysu.edu.tw/scoreqry/ by the end of the semester. The password is the same as your course selection password.

Each of the students should receive 2 copies of the transcript, and they will be sent to their home universities once all of their grades are uploaded.

Fall semester - the transcripts will be sent around mid-February

Spring semester - the transcripts will be sent around early August.

Q: Can I request more copies of my transcript after returning to my home university?

A: Yes. The requests can be made by sending the "Request Form" together with the soft copy of your passport and the payment receipt to oia.exchange@mail.nsysu.edu.tw.
