Overseas Chinese Students Part-time Work (Work Permit Application)

Procedures and Important Notes for Overseas Chinese Students Applying for Work Permits

Foreign students who wish to work in Taiwan (whether on campus or off campus) must first apply for and obtain a work permit. If you work without applying for a permit as required, you may be fined NT$30,000 to NT$150,000 and be ordered to leave Taiwan.

 

A. Work Permit Application

All applications for work permits by overseas Chinese and foreign students must be submitted online.

✅ Required Documents:

1. Photocopy of both sides of Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)

2. Photocopy of both sides of student ID

3. Photocopy of passport

4. Certificate of enrollment

B. Related Regulations

✅ Work Permit Validity Period (valid for one academic year)

  • Application in the first semester → valid until September 30 of the following year
  • Application in the second semester → valid until September 30 of the same year

Example: ① October 1, 2024: Apply for work permit, valid until September 30, 2025. ② August 1, 2025: Apply for work permit, valid until September 30, 2025.

Note: For graduating university students (including those extending graduation), the work permit is valid until June 30 of the same year.

If you submit a copy of your student ID with the next academic year’s first semester registration stamp (certified by the Registrar) or provide proof of registration, you are not subject to the limitation of the work permit period ending on September 30 of the following year.

If you need to take summer courses or extend graduation, you may submit relevant proof issued by your school or department. If you are admitted to a university or graduate school, you may attach proof of registration from the admitting school to apply for an extension of the work permit validity until September 30 of the same year.

✅ Other Regulations:

① Except for winter and summer vacations, the maximum working hours per week are 20 hours.

② Overseas Chinese students, Hong Kong and Macau students, and foreign students enrolled in formal degree programs in Taiwan may apply for a work permit after enrollment. However, foreign students studying language courses must have completed at least one year of study before applying.

③ If a student suspends or withdraws from studies, the work permit becomes invalid.
